The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Tuesday that players from England's T20 World Cup-bound squad will not be available for the IPL 2024 playoffs and will play in the T20I series against Pakistan.
The defending champions revealed their provisional 15-man team for the World Cup, commencing on June 1 in the USA and the West Indies. The same squad will lock horns against Pakistan in the T20I series.
Both sides are set to contest a four-match T20I series from May 22 to 30, taking place in Leeds, Birmingham, Cardiff, and London. This series will serve as the final preparation for the T20 World Cup.
"Selected players, currently playing in the Indian Premier League, will return in time for the series against Pakistan, which gets underway at Headingley on Wednesday 22 May 2024," ECB said in their release.
Jos Buttler was appointed as the captain of England's T20 World Cup squad, marking the return of fast bowlers Jofra Archer and Chris Jordan.
Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders will suffer a significant setback as their in-form openers Jos Buttler and Phil Salt will be absent for the playoffs, scheduled to commence on April 21. Punjab stands to lose as many as three players if they qualify for the playoffs.
